Wild About Meadows Workshop at the Homestead – with Jan Hoyland

The date: Thursday 5th October 2023, 9am – 2.30/3pm

The venue: Homestead Kitchen, Goathland

The workshop: Join us for a fascinating exploration into how to create attractive and diverse flower meadows in your own garden.

Jan Hoyland, Garden Designer and rewilding expert will take us through the different ways we can introduce wildflowers, from borders to meadows, encouraging us to take no-mow May up to a whole new level.

We will have the chance to get hands on, learning how to plant bulbs and wildflower plugs into existing lawns as well as sowing wild flowers from seed.

If you have ever wondered how to make a haven for pollinators and other wildlife, without sacrificing beauty, this is the course for you.

The lunch: A two course lunch, to include a house wine or soft drink.

Choose from: North sea fish pie, brassica salad OR Homestead gnocchi, wild mushrooms, brassicas, summerfield cheese. Followed by vanilla rice pudding, spiced pear, Pedro ximenez.

Price: £75 per person

Jan is working with us here at the Homestead to help us develop the ‘edibility’ of the garden, so that we can produce as much as possible for the restaurant, and alongside this we are working hard to support the environment around us, so the workshop will be based in our newly planted orchard, which is home to 6 fruit trees, which will be surrounded by wildflower meadow, as a food source for the bees and insects, and to also include edible flowers and herbs for the kitchen.

We have some big plans to develop our space here, with a view to creating a permanent workshop space and teaching area in the garden. Think luxe summerhouse/potting shed (planning permission fingers are crossed!), a fire circle for cooking and meeting around, demonstration raised beds and much more. On the day of the workshop we will be having our friend and wonderful cameraman shooting a little footage of the day, which we hope to use for social media and to capture the story of how the Homestead Kitchen Garden develops.

Very much looking forward to having you all here should you wish to book on, for any queries please do contact me via email cecily@thehomesteadgoathland.com or call 01947 896191.
