Raising funds for St Catherine’s Hospice

Garden lovers, walkers, and supporters of a wonderful local cause are invited to enjoy a special day exploring some of Goathland’s most beautiful private gardens during the Goathland Open Gardens event on Sunday 21 June 2026, from 11am to 4pm.

Organised by local resident, Katy Newton, in partnership with village residents, this popular community event aims to raise funds for St Catherine’s Hospice, supporting the vital care and services they provide across the region.

For one day only, visitors will have the opportunity to explore nine unique gardens throughout the village, each offering its own character, planting styles, and hidden treasures. Whether you are seeking gardening inspiration, a relaxing afternoon stroll, or simply a chance to enjoy the beauty of Goathland in summer, there is something for everyone.

The Gardens

1. Harwood, The Green

Located just to the left of the village shops, Harwood provides the perfect starting point for your garden trail.

2. Three Oaks, Mill Green Way

Head past the North York Moors National Park car park and you’ll find Three Oaks next to the Fire Station. They will be running a plant stall, plus information relating to Goathland Nature Group.

3. 6 Oakfield Avenue

Continue down towards the village school to discover this charming garden.

4. Goathland Primary School

Visitors can enjoy views of the school’s garden areas from the roadside. Please note that there is no access inside the school grounds.

5. The Grange

From the school, continue to the crossroads and turn left. Follow the road down the hill and back up again, where The Grange can be found on the right-hand side.

6. Goathland House

Continue past the Village Hall and turn right at the T-junction. Look out for the striking bright red front door.

7. The Stone House

Just a few doors further along, this delightful garden can be found on the left-hand side as you head up the village.

8. Wheathill

Across the road from The Stone House, keep an eye out for the garden teepee. Visitors can also enjoy Pimm’s and Puddings (along with a selection of other refreshments) here during the afternoon.

9. The Homestead Kitchen

Located opposite the village church, the restaurant’s beautiful gardens at the rear will be open to the public for this special day only.

Tickets

Tickets must be purchased from the Village Post Office. With this, you will also receive a map.

PLEASE NOTE: Originally there was a plan to have stalls and refreshments at the Village Hall, but please note this is no longer the case, but may still be showing on some of the literature.

• £5 per adult
• Accompanied children under 16 years old go free

Parking

Parking is available in three locations, all of which are paid for carparks (see map below for exact locations)

• North York Moors National Park Car Park
• The parking field next to Brereton Lodge
• Goathland Hut will be kindly also opening up for parking too

Public Toilets

Public toilet facilities can be found at the National Park Car Park.

Important Information

• No dogs are permitted in any of the gardens.
• Some earlier publicity stated that stalls and refreshments would be available at the Village Hall. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, this is no longer the case.
